Submit Your Manuscript

How to submit

Start with your quote. It takes about a minute, it asks only about your book, and it ends with a number on the screen. From there you can open your author account and upload your manuscript straight away. No card, nothing owed, and a real person reads what you send.

What we do differently

Some publishers turn a submission down, or simply never reply, and once they have said no they take no further interest in you or your book.

Others will publish your book in whatever condition it arrives. It may need editing, formatting, design — it doesn’t matter, because the book was never the point. The point was selling you a high-priced package, or accepting as many submissions as possible and making the money on volume.

We want to accept your book and see it published. But we will not give you a pass. If what you send is ready, we will publish it. If it needs work, we will tell you plainly what it needs and point you to the people who can help — because a book you are proud of is the only version of this worth doing.

We do not charge a fee to publish. A legitimate publisher should earn its money from selling books, not from charging an author thousands of dollars for setup and services that return nothing.

Preparing your manuscript

Your manuscript should be edited and ready. There may be a few typos and formatting oddities left — that is normal, and the proof round exists to catch them — but the grammar and punctuation should be sound. If you need an editor, ask us; we keep a list of people who work with our authors.

Format

Send your manuscript digitally. In most cases it should be an editable file, ideally Word, which lets us typeset the interior properly and build your eBook editions from the same text. If your book is already laid out and you want it printed exactly as it is, send a PDF — but note that a PDF cannot become a proper eBook, so that choice gives up the eBook edition.

What we will not publish

We are open to almost anything that is well written, but we do turn down books whose content we are not willing to put our imprint on — gratuitous vulgarity, sexual content, and the glorification of abuse or violence. If you are unsure where your book falls, ask us before you begin.

Reprints and out-of-print books

We republish books that have gone out of print, and books whose authors want to leave their current publisher. These do not go through the full review. Send a digital file — usually a PDF — or a clean printed copy we can scan at high resolution. Where no editable file survives, the changes that can be made to the text are limited, and we will tell you what is possible before you commit.
